Fueling Singapore's Growth: Unveiling the Natural Gas Supply Chain

Singapore's diverse energy portfolio hinges on a robust natural gas supply chain. This intricate system, orchestrated by gas suppliers, importers, and shippers, seamlessly delivers piped natural gas (PNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet the nation's needs. From Indonesian and Malaysian pipelines to international LNG tankers, each element contributes to Singapore's energy resilience. This article delves into the key players and processes that keep Singapore powered.

Supply and Import

Singapore's energy lifeline is fueled by both piped natural gas (PNG) from neighboring Indonesia and Malaysia, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) imported from diverse global sources like the United States, Qatar, and Australia. These resources first undergo meticulous processing: PNG at Onshore Receiving Facilities for network injection, and LNG at the dedicated LNG Terminal, where it's regasified before injection into the gas pipelines. This robust supply chain, meticulously managed by various stakeholders, ensures Singapore's energy security and fuels its continued growth.

Transmission and Distribution

Singapore's gas network is a vital web connecting diverse suppliers with gas users. Large- and medium-volume gas consumers withdraw gas directly from the Transmission Network. Gas Retail Customers purchase gas from Gas Retailers and withdraw gas from the Distribution Network. The physical gas network and gas market operations are managed by the Gas Transporter, ensuring a reliable flow of a natural resource to power Singapore.
